The most simple, yet extremely effective tip I could give you on how to ask for what you want, is to advise you to always be very concise, brief and specific. Try to avoid confusing, vague and generalized words and phrases. Being brief and concise is also a form of respect, especially when you ask something from a very busy person.

If you want to receive a proper piece of advice or the most needed help, then try to ask for what you need from someone who can really help you, from someone who has the resources and the qualifications necessary to meet your demands. Find someone who has something you don’t and see what he did to obtain it. Or you could even hire an expert for professional advice.

Whenever you’re asking for something, try to first think about what exactly do you want or need. You should try not to venture and always speak in general whenever you want something; because you might think that you give the other person the freedom to choose. Be more specific! Ask exactly for what you desire, so that the other person won’t misunderstand you and your needs.

The easiest way to receive a NO is to send confusing and conflicting signals. If you’re not fully convinced of what you’re asking for, others will see that from your body language, from the tone of your voice, from your posture and so on. You must be capable to show that you know what you’re asking for, that you are absolutely certain that you will succeed in obtaining it and that your request will be beneficial both for your and for the other person.

After you ask for something, no matter how small or even insignificant that thing might be, try to always finish your request in a passionate manner. Explain why are you passionate about that thing, why do you need it, what do you wanna do with it and how you won’t give up if your request will be denied. By doing this, you will be surprised how many people will be eager to help you.

I know that sometimes you may really really need something and you would be willing to do anything to get it. If that’s the case, you might be tempted to embellish the details of your request and you may also be tempted to promise certain things that you’re actually not able to accomplish. Try to be authentic and sincere whenever you’re asking for something. Don’t lie! Smart people can spot the bitter smell of despair from miles away.

I know that sometimes one of the hardest things to admit is the fact that you can’t do something all by yourself and that you actually need help. A lot of people avoid asking for help for different reasons: out of pride, shyness or even fear. Don’t be one of them! Remember that strong and wise people have the courage to admit they need help and they’re not afraid to ask for what they want.
