1

Get a Free Bang Trim

My best tip on how to save money at the salon is to get a free bang trim! Most hair stylists won’t charge you to just drop by and snip your bangs, especially if you are a regular and loyal customer. If your salon doesn’t offer this amenity, ask your stylist to show you how to trim your own bangs at home to save a few bucks!

2

Ask about Loyalty Programs

Almost every salon has loyalty programs. Just ask to find out if there’s anything you can be doing to earn points or save money! For example, if you refer a friend you might receive 10% off your next visit! Or if you pre-book your next appointment for 5 full visits, you might get a free hair product.

3

Skip the Nail Design

I love to get a pedicure, but I usually do them myself at home to save money. However, for those few times when I do splurge and get a pedi, I normally skip the nail design. It can tack on anywhere from an extra $5-10 dollars to your bill!

4

Go to Beauty Schools

If you are really strapped for money, yet desperate to receive a beauty treatment, consider trying out beauty schools! Students are closely supervised by their instructors, and you pay 50% or less of the price you would pay in a salon. Beauty schools can offer any service from hair cuts and colors, to facials, waxing or manicures and pedicures!

5

Visit Your Salon at the Right Time

Remember that according to the time of year, salon prices may be jacked up! Holidays, wedding season, or prom time may be more expensive than other times of the year. Usually, you can get good deals around back-to-school season, or in the spring.

Splurge on Shampoo

One way to extend the life of your color and keep your hair manageable longer is by using salon shampoos. They are a bit pricier, but they save you money in the long run! Hiding split ends, keeping your color fresh, and making sure your hair looks glossy are a few of the benefits you will receive from using salon shampoo on a regular basis!

7

Go Longer in between Visits

I’m pretty strict about staying on a schedule with my hair appointments. I used to go every 6 weeks without fail! However, once I realized that I could stretch my appointments out to every 10-12 weeks without sacrificing my looks or hair health, I jumped on it! By doing this, I eliminated about 3 of my yearly visits to the salon.

8

Ask for Highlights THIS Way

Who doesn’t love highlights? And who doesn’t hate root growth? Here’s how to have your highlights and hide root growth while you’re at it. Ask your stylist to put the highlights under the first layer of your hair. She can lift a thin enough layer to just camouflage root growth, but still allow highlights to peek through!

I love my trips to the salon as much as any other girl! But I have to make sure they stay in my budget, which is why these tips work great for me! Beauty doesn’t have to be unaffordable. What are your tips and tricks for saving money at the salon?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

I'm a hairdresser myself and I would never suggest a customer to go more than 4-6 weeks with out a colour. The only reason is because we use the heat band from the scalp so pushing a colour out twice as long as normal to wait is actually bad as it won't give you that beautiful even tone all the way down and you WILL end up with banding especially if you're a blonde... I know it's expensive but there are some cheaper shops around. As I said I'm a hairdresser but I work in a barbers shop and we are alot cheaper than the ladies salon so maybe check some local shops that are small and do the odd lady and ask if they can do you. But keep in mind they normally are for simple looks..

Great tips but I have a mobile hairdresser who was trained and worked in a hairdressers I have mine cut blow dried and coloured for £30 find yourself a good mobile hairdresser th

They usually charge a lot less !

Salon's is the one thing that I'm so NOT girlie about.
