1. 40 Hour Famine
The 40 Hour Famine is one of the charity fundraisers that I participate in annually. Traditionally, as the name suggests, the fundraiser requires you to give up food for 40 hours so you can experience what it’s like for people who regularly go without food. Nowadays though, the rules have been adapted, and you can go without anything that’s important to you - technology, furniture or even sight.
2. World’s Greatest Shave
If you’re feeling really adventurous, how about trying out the World’s Greatest Shave? You get sponsored to shave your head to support those living with cancer who lose their hair due to chemo. If you’re not ready for the commitment of a shaved head, dying your hair is also an option.
Frequently asked questions
3. Step out: Walk to Stop Diabetes
Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is an initiative by the American Diabetes Foundation. It occurs in 125 cities around America, and over 12,000 people participate every year. Essentially, you get sponsorships from people you know and walk! The average walk is between 2.5 to 6 miles, and you can recruit others to walk with you to keep you company.
4. Jump Rope for Heart
This must be one of the funnest fundraisers ever! While it often occurs in schools, people out of schools are also encouraged to participate. If your school doesn’t get involved, how about suggesting it to them? By jumping rope and getting sponsorships from people, you can raise money for research into heart disease.
5. Strawberry Tea
Even though the fundraiser kit is only available in the UK, don’t let this put you off if you live elsewhere! To participate in this totally delicious fundraiser, just create a morning tea for yourself and your friends incorporating strawberries, then ask for a donation in return for the delicious food. This money then goes towards breast cancer research!
6. The Longest Day
If Alzheimer’s disease is a cause that is close to your heart, then participating in The Longest Day is perfect for you. Just recruit your friends and family and pick an activity that you love to do, then do that activity for a whole day! You’re asked to raise $100 per hour of activity, and this money goes to Alzheimer’s research.
7. Relay for Life
This is a great fundraiser for people with lots of friends! Create a team of 10-15 and attend a Relay for Life event near you. You participate in a relay with your team, all the while raising money for cancer research. If that doesn’t sound like a great, inspiring day then I don’t know what does!
These fundraisers are definitely worth checking out, because raising money for charities not only helps out those people in need, but it also makes you feel amazing as a person. As you should! Find a fundraiser to try out and get your philanthropic hat on. Have you participated in these events, or any events like them?
