7 Awesome Reasons to Shop at Discount Stores ...

There are many reasons to shop at discount stores, but some people don’t even give them a try before deciding they prefer to shop at regular stores. Discount stores can include, but aren’t limited to, places like the Dollar General, Ross, TJ Maxx, Super One Foods, or any thrift store. Below are my top reasons to shop at discount stores, so please keep reading if you’re interested in trying out a discount store!

1. Less Expensive

One of my number one reasons to shop at discount stores is because you can get products or food items for way cheaper! You may need to buy a store brand, but this isn’t always the case. Sometimes discount stores will have brand name items for a good deal, either because they received them from a store who overstocked or because they ordered them and haven’t sold them all quickly enough. This is when you want to stock up!

2. Unique Selections

I love shopping in clothing discount stores because there are wide varieties of unique choices! Most discount stores either receive their clothes via donations or from stores who overstocked or didn’t sell in time. So sometimes you can find off-season clothes on the racks, which makes it convenient to buy ahead of time for the approaching season!

3. Smaller Crowds

I don’t really like dealing with crowds when I shop. All the pushing and shoving, the squeezing, the noise, not to mention long lines and lack of customer service! Discount stores are rarely chock full of customers, which means you don’t wait in line as long or have a huge crowd to push through.

4. Bagging Your Own Groceries

Now this one might sound a little crazy, but I actually prefer to bag my own groceries. Most discount grocery stores don’t hire bagboys, so you bag your own. I can’t count the number of times I’ve gotten home to squished bread or produce because someone bagged my groceries wrong!

5. Tag Sales

Discount stores already have top-notch prices, but the days when they run tag sales are when you can get even better deals! Tag sales are generally color-coded, so ask the sales associate which tag color is on sale the day you are shopping. Then look for items with that color tag!

6. Ability to Pick and Choose

Just because you are shopping at a discount store doesn’t mean you HAVE to buy there. If you don’t find anything you like, or if you only find a few generic brands that you feel comfortable using, then buy those and go to another store to complete your shopping! You have to right to pick and choose, so don’t feel trapped.

7. Easier to Buy in Bulk

Discount stores make it easier to buy in bulk. Often, there are items already packaged in bulk, or sometimes the prices are so affordable that you can buy several of an item you use frequently. Whatever the case, discount stores are usually the best places for buying in bulk!

As with anything, there are a few downsides to shopping in discount stores. It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it, but quite honestly when you consider the savings, you have to ask yourself “Why not?” Have you ever shopped at a discount store?
