As a woman who has to keep a pretty tight budget, I have come up with some tricks to save money and still have great skin. Advertisers would like you to think that you need expensive products for beautiful skin. The truth is, you can have great skin without breaking the bank. I don’t spend much money on skincare, but at 27 years old people still think I am a teenager! My skincare routine is easy and is full of tricks to save money.
When I was a 13 I started having bad acne, and my doctor suggested that I change my pillow cases every other night. At first, I thought this was excessive and I really didn’t think it would work. However, when I finally started following her advice I was very happy with the results. My acne quickly started clearing up, and I didn’t have to buy anything to dry the zits out. If you are prone to acne like I am, please try this. Clean pillowcases are essential for blemish free skin, and having a clean pillow case is one of the best tricks to save money and have great skin.
Exfoliating your skin gives you a beautiful glow by speeding cell turnover and getting rid of dead skin. Yes, you can buy very expensive exfoliating products, but you don’t really need to. I use the exfoliating gloves that cost $4 at my local drug store. They’re inexpensive, they last a long time, and they work. My skin is always very soft after I use my exfoliating gloves. I use them 3 or 4 times a week to help my skin stay soft and glowing.
The face soap I use is a very basic bar soap. Over the years, I have used more expensive face soaps, but I found that a simple bar soap works wonders. The one I use has no harsh ingredients or fragrances and is very gentle on my skin. It actually is less irritating than some of the more expensive products I have tried. As an added bonus, a bar of soap lasts a really long time. A bar of soap is already inexpensive, but because it lasts so long I save even more money than I would if I used a cream cleanser. I can honestly say that a bar of soap will keep your skin looking great while saving you money.
Many beauty companies carry lines of face products that include toners. However, you don’t really need these toners, and if you look at the ingredient list they are mostly water and rubbing alcohol! Alcohol can be very harsh on skin, and it is best to skip it. When I stopped using facial toners I didn’t notice a difference in my skin, but I did notice a difference in my wallet. I definitely had more money.
Coconut oil is a great inexpensive moisturizer. Depending on where you live, you can buy a large jar of organic, cold pressed coconut oil for around $7. I use to think coconut oil would make me break out, but my skin stays blemish free and smooth when I use it. I even convinced my mom to start using coconut oil on her face, and the results have been amazing. I am not exaggerating when I say that her wrinkles are shrinking! After just a few times using it she really does look younger! I don’t know if everyone would experience such dramatic results, but I know that it worked for her.
If you feel like your skin needs a really deep clean and you are tempted to go to a spa, go to your health food store and by a jar of bentonite clay instead. When this clay powder is mixed with water you can use it as a facial mask. It will draw impurities out and calm irritated skin. It really does work great, and runs between 5 to 10 dollars for a pound, which will last forever.
Eating healthy food that is full of nutrients will greatly benefit your skin. I follow a very healthy diet, and people often comment on how nice my skin looks. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruits and stay away from sugar and dairy. I also make sure to drink plenty of water to keep my skin and body hydrated. You may wonder how eating healthy will save you money. The way I see it, you have to eat. So, if you spend your money on healthy food that benefits your skin instead of junk food you will be much less likely to need expensive face products. I know it may seem like a stretch, but it has been true for me.
Having good skin is important to me, but because of my budget I cannot buy expensive products. Despite my tight budget, I still have great skin, and you can too. By just keeping it simple and using some of these tricks you can save money and still have great skin. What are your tricks for great skin?
