We’re all looking for creative ways to save money, from extreme couponing to cutting back on shoe expenditures (gasp!) … but are there ways to save money on beauty and still look gorgeous? Of course there are, and I can tell you how! So put down your coupon scissors, and keep reading. Here are 7 smart ways to save money on beauty without sacrificing style, sweetie!
From face masks to hair treatments, there are dozens of beauty care items you can make at home with items you already have in your own pantry or fridge… oats, honey, avocado, eggs… so many of these can be used to make your own treatments, why spend your hard-earned cash on store-bought ones? One of the best ways to save money is to re-purpose stuff you already have, right?
2. Join a Loyalty Program
All of my favorite beauty shops have customer loyalty and rewards programs, and every year, I earn all kinds of free treats. Sign up with Sephora and Ulta, for starters, then add your other favorites as you shop with them. This is a great way to save money!
3. Wait for Sales, then Stock up
It always seems like as soon as I buy something I need, it goes on sale. Shoot! If you can, wait til the items you use go on sale, then stock up on them, so when you run out of your favorite moisturizer, you don’t have to pay full price because you’re desperate for it… you have time to find another sale before you use your extra!
4. Shop around
Just like different shoe stores have different price points, so do beauty brands and stores. Shop around until you find a brand, and a store, that has the items you want and need in a price bracket you like; what an easy way to save money!
5. Samples Are Sweet!
I love buying from Sephora and Ulta, and subscribing to BeautyBox5, because of the samples! Samples are an excellent way to find out whether or not a new product is right for you, without spending a lot of a full-size package.
6. Schedule a Swap
We all have that box in our cupboard, or that self in our cabinet, that’s chock full of products we bought, used once, and hated. There’s that pricey moisturizer that made us feel greasy, or that lotion that smelled too much like vanilla. Schedule a swap with some of your friends, and exchange barely-used beauty items… maybe your bestie loves vanilla, and your cousin’s always wanted to try that moisturizer!
7. Know What You Need
According to most beauty experts, we all need about three dozen beauty supplies to get us through the day… moisturizers and toners and wrinkle creams and conditioners… oh my! But realistically, do you actually need or even use all those products? Probably not. Take a close look at your morning and night-time beauty regimens, and only buy the products you know you use. If you don’t use it, don’t buy it… this is another great way to save money.
8. Set a Budget!
Here’s a great way to save money, on everything, not just on beauty. Figure out how much you can afford to spend on beauty (or whatever) each month, and ONLY spend that amount! If you’re dying for that new Effie Trinket-inspired OPI polish, but you’ve already spent your beauty budget for the month, walk away… and come back next month!
With so many practical ways to save money on beauty (and everything else), there’s no reason to go without, or break the bank! Which of these ways do you already save money on beauty, and which are you promising yourself to try? Or do you have another way to save money on beauty to share? Please do! I’m listening!
