1. Walk Everywhere

Walk Everywhere Whether you’re going to the corner store or visiting a friend, walking is one of the best ways to get into shape for free. This is an effortless way to burn extra calories. If you decide to drive your car while running errands, park as far away from the door as possible. And if given the choice between the stairs or an elevator, always choose the stairs.

2. Cycle to Work

Cycle to Work If you work within a few miles of your home, give your car a break and pull out your bicycle. Biking to and from work has multiple benefits. An early morning bike ride to work can energize and prepare you for the day. And in the evenings, a bike ride can help you de-stress.

3. Use Free Gym Passes

Use Free Gym Passes As an incentive, some local gyms give away free passes. You can often use these passes for multiple visits within a specific time frame. Sure, you have to sit through a presentation on the benefits of joining the gym. But if you can get through this, a free pass gives you temporary access to gym equipment.

4. Hit the Trail

Hit the Trail Go to your local park and walk around the trail. This is a perfect way to get the entire family physically active without spending a dime. Power walk along the trail to burn calories, or jog to maximize results. And if you’re ready for a real workout, bring your bike. Biking on rough terrain can work your muscles and burn extra calories.

5. Play Outdoor Sports

Play Outdoor Sports Maybe you’re not a runner or a walker. No worries. Find an activity that you enjoy and participate in this activity a few times a week. For example, if you enjoy swimming, take a few laps during the day. Likewise, if you enjoy playing basketball, go to the local park and shoot a few hoops.

6. Buy a Workout Video

Buy a Workout Video You can have success working out in your living room. This is not only convenient, but very cost-effective. Most workout DVDs only costs a few bucks. And as long as you have Internet access, you can search a variety of workout videos on YouTube. Build your stock of exercise videos and work out at any hour of the day - regardless of the weather.

7. Use Resistance Bands

Use Resistance Bands If you’re looking to tone your arms and legs, you don’t necessarily need a gym membership. Sure, the gym has a variety of weight lifting equipment designed to build muscle tone. But often times, you can achieve similar results with resistance bands or hand weights. Add these to your personal inventory and get beach ready in about six weeks.

Time and money are hard to come by these days. Plus, getting into shape shouldn’t break the bank. Not to say you shouldn’t join a gym. But if now’s not the best time to commit to a monthly membership, these suggestions can whip your body into shape. How do you work out on the cheap?

I lost 60 lbs in a year using workout videos from my local library and Wii dance games from the library also so it's great to find free or low cost methods to keep money from being a deterrent

Buying a workout video requires spending money...

A little surprised at how many of those are not free. Good try though. "Low or no cost" might have been a better catch line

I've lost 15 lbs in two months just by throwing on some hip hop and dancing in my room for 30 min a day. I have a busy schedule where my work hours change frequently. If I have extra time I will throw in an extra 30-45 min interval strength training. Doesn't even feel like a work out when I can jam to some tunes.
