If you want to be successful, then you can't show up after the time you were scheduled to arrive--you shouldn't even show up right on time. You should always be early.

If you fill out an application form incorrectly, because you didn't read the instructions, you won't get the job. If your boss instructs you to do something, and you mess up, because you weren't paying attention, you'll get in trouble. You have to force yourself to pay attention to instructions, even if they're boring. You don't want to get fired over something silly.

You don't have to own dozens of expensive business suits, but you should keep your hair washed and your body smelling fresh. You shouldn't leave the house if you haven't showered in days. You don't have to dress like a beauty queen, but make it clear that you take care of yourself. It's not too difficult to do.

When you sit in a chair, don't lean back like you're relaxing on your couch. When your boss asks you to do him a favor, don't groan. If you appear lazy, then you're not going to be trusted with big assignments. Show initiative by pretending to be excited about whatever you're assigned to do.

It may seem like everybody lies on their resume, but it's a dangerous thing to do. You don't want your boss to ask you to do something that you claimed you were skilled in, but actually have no idea how to do. Lying can always backfire, so think before you lie to your higher-ups about anything.

When you're in an office, you can't curse during every sentence. You can't use slang, either. If you want to speak like that while you're out with your friends, that's fine, but it's a completely different situation when you're at work. You have to behave professionally, so watch your words.

It's okay to be shy, but you have to learn to look others in the eye when you're speaking with them. It's disrespectful to look down while someone is talking to you, and it'll make you seem lacking in confidence. Even if you're insecure, you have to act like you're not if you want to be successful.
