1. Grocery Tips

Here is where many of us can easily overspend our budget without meaning to or even realizing what we are doing. There was one month that I spent over $500.00 on our grocery budget for just my husband and myself! Here are my tips for smart grocery shopping. Make a list and stick to it. Buy the off-brand. Don’t go when hungry. Take only cash, which will force you to stay within your limit. These tips really work for getting the most for your money!

2. Bad Habits

Here is a great trick to get the most for your money. Take a look at your life, and see if you have any habits, particularly bad habits, and then nix them! Some examples include smoking, excessive shopping, drinking, gambling, and excessive gaming. It won’t be easy, but if you can last a month with either reduced spending or no spending in a problem area of your life, the money that you save just might be enough to help you quit for good!

Frequently asked questions

3. Large Purchases

I love this thought on how to get more for your money. If there is a large purchase you have been wanting to make, take at least 24 hours to think it over. Impulse buys can be the biggest money suckers ever! Make sure it is absolutely something you need at the time. And then find out details on warranties, return policies and other such tidbits. Many companies will offer financing so that you can make payments on an item. If you choose to go that route, make sure that the payments are something you can afford.

4. Bills

Take a look at your monthly bills and see if there are any unnecessary bills you are paying, or any bills you might be overpaying. For instance, if you pay for cable, yet rarely watch any of the channels, you can cut back in that area. Your cell phone bill is another one to re-evaluate and decide if you really need 5,000 minutes a month. You can even get more for your money on your electricity bill! Unplug appliances when you are not using them, and be careful not to leave lights on when you aren’t in the room. Adjust your thermostat accordingly when you leave your house or when you sleep. These tips will save you money!

5. Small Purchases

It’s important to consider large purchases, but it’s also important to consider the small ones! Getting more for your money applies to all areas of life. Consider this: If you shell out $3 a day for a coffee and $7 a day for a sandwich, you’ve spent $100+ by the end of the month! For $15-$20, you could buy the things needed to make your own coffee and sandwiches. Other small areas that suck up money? Candy, magazines, snacks, and DVD’s.

6. Coupon Craze

I love coupons just as much as the next person. They can be helpful in saving you money, as well as keeping you well under budget. But here are some thought to be mindful of when couponing in order to get more for your money. Don’t use a coupon unless it was something you had already intended to buy. Just because you have a coupon for it doesn’t mean you need it! Never spend more than 30 minutes a week clipping coupons, and only clip coupons for brands or items that you know you will use.

7. Be Smart

It’s always smart to use a little common sense when learning how to get the most for your money. Make it an earnest goal not to buy items such as clothing, electronic items, household goods or beauty products unless you absolutely need them and try to wait until the item you want goes on sale. Check online for coupons and specials as you can normally find them pretty easily with chain stores and department stores.

With these tips, I hope you can learn some great ways to get more for your money! I’ve been implementing all of these ideas in my own life lately, and they really do work! I’ve saved hundreds of dollars just by making a few little changes here and there, to really get the most for your money. You can feel very accomplished being able to know that you’re going to get the most for your money. What are your secrets on getting the most for your money?
